Hey creatives! I can't wait for you all to meet Allegra. Her passion and drive are insanely addictive. As a coach she helps women tackle their dreams without ever giving in to fear or petty thoughts. Dream projects become doable and wild and crazy ideas become real and exciting. She has a way with words and if you ever get a chance to chat with her (you should really do this) you will see that along with her natural beauty and infectious personality lies a true creative...committed to her work and to her sweet little family. She has a daughter, Sunny, who is 6, and Cameron, her son, is 4. Allegra, my friend, i am so glad you are here!
What makes you a creative?
I am incredibly inspired by listening to other coaches and how they work, the insights they have, their own wisdom that they share. I read a ton of books about self-development and growth, which fuels my passion for my own work. I like talking things out with people which is where my big insights can come to the surface.
I recently designed and illustrated a zine that bubbled out of my creativity well a few months back. Doing that was a wonderful exercise in letting my creativity take over without too much thought or planning.
Describe your abode.
I live in Tuxedo Park, NY, in the Hudson Valley. Our home is a log home- super cozy and unique. It feels more and more like a home the longer i live here.
How does simplicity show up in your life?
Honestly i don't know how simple my life is right now. I try to be very conscious of the objects around me and not keep anything that doesn't feel special, and yet i still have a lot of objects around me that my mind can interpret as clutter. I have done good at paring down my clothes and keeping straightened drawers. I cook a lot of the same meals. With two small kids, a husband, a home AND a business it can be hard to keep it all feeling “simple”.
You have a love for travel…tell us where you want to go next.
We have a family trip to Charleston coming up that I’m very excited about!
What is your style?
I have no idea. I love jeans and tank tops. My husband describes me as “rocker-y” which is kind of cute. I have a pair of grey ankle boots I like to wear, and my parents gave me a pair of cowboy boots at Christmas that I think are super fun - an homage to my family of wranglers in Utah.
Have any daily habits or routines to stay healthy?
Working real hard on yoga and meditation every day.
What does balance look like for you in your daily life?
Actually, for me it's more like counterbalance and trying to make sure that I'm not giving any one thing so much time and energy that the other things in my life suffer. For me it’s a lot of awareness around the fact that saying “yes” to one thing means saying “no” to another.
When/how do you feel most beautiful and most aligned with yourself?
Right after I’ve gotten dressed, brushed my hair and teeth, and put on a touch of makeup. This is usually following my morning routine of yoga, meditation, and kids -- like I’m all refreshed and ready to start the day.
What are some of your imperfections and how do you use them to your advantage?
I can be very impatient - wanting answers NOW. This can be helpful, though, in spurring me to be bold.
We are constantly growing and working on ourselves. What are you working on right now?
Mindfulness, present- moment thinking, not living in the future or the past, while at the same time looking up every so often and considering the big goals I have for myself. Doing things that scare me.
What is your beauty regime?
Trying to wash my face every night before bed, then using facial oil and a night cream. I’m really enjoying Argan Oil and Marula Oil. Flossing every morning.
What are 5 things you cannot live without?
- My family
- the ocean
- lip balm
- good hand lotion
What advice do you have for mothers looking to find balance in both being healthy and staying creative.
Consider a counterbalanced life. Take ownership of your decisions and don’t live in judgement of the choices you make. Know that saying yes to one thing means saying no to another -- and that this is okay.
